Andrés Nagel Tejada (San Sebastián, 1947) is a painter, sculptor and Spanish engraver, one of the current artists of biggest international projection.

Nagel finished the race of Architecture in 1972; already by then it had exposed sometimes. In that same year he went into the engraving techniques and knew Chillida, who would be a key in its trajectory although it did not have to influence him esthetically, for Nagel opted from the principle for the figurative art in a way opposed to that of the famous abstract sculptor.

With multiple interests and very traveller, Nagel went in those different years over countries, including Europe of the east, Turkey, the north of Africa... Its journeys to Venice, to Basel and to Kassel put it in tune with esthetic currents that did not access to the then precarious Spanish artistic circuit.

In the middle of the 70 Nagel he initiated a feverish exposing activity, in collective as well as in individual: Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Pamplona... In 1976 he took part in the sample "New Spanish Painting" (New York) and two years afterwards in an exhibition in tribute to Joan Miró in Palm. In 1980, his works were included in several collective ones in the United States (Austin, Tallahassee and Cleveland) and it also contributed to the Biennial of Fredrikstad (Norway).

From the eighties, its presence in international samples increases. In 1982 it takes part in the "II Trienal of Drawing" of Nuremberg, in 1983 in the "Biennale of Graphic Art" of Varna (Bulgaria), and in 1984 it takes part in collective in Dortmund, Bonn and Basel. In 1985 it is included in a selection of works of the Museum Spanish of Contemporary Art (predecessor of the Museum Queen Sofia) exposed in the Foundation Gulbenkian of Lisbon. In 1986 guest for the government of Iraq goes to the "Baghdag International Festival of Arts" together with Manolo Valdés and other Spanish artists.

In 1987 Nagel it placed a big steel sculpture in a square of Barcelona, and went to the fair Fiac de París with a stand exclusively (gallery Gamarra and Garrigues). The following year the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao dedicated an anthological one to its graphic work, of which a reasoned catalog was edited. In 1989 the artist initiated a collaboration of more than ten years with the Tasende Gallery de La Jolla (California), with which it contributed to fairs in Chicago and Los Angeles and even exhibited in the Museum Meadows de Dallas.

In 1991 it took an itinerant sample, which arrived in the Museum Tamayo and to whose opening the same Rufino Tamayo went in its last public appearance before dying, through Mexico. That same year Nagel took part in several collective ones (Boston, Hawaii...) and received Hakone Open-Air Museum of Japan the assignment of a sculpture for the open-air museum. In posterior years he exposed in half a world: New York, Iowa, Reindeer, Singapore, Hong Kong, San Diego, Paris, Chicago, Mexico D.F., Vancouver, Vienna, Milan... In 2001, a sculpture of his was exposed in the gardens of the historical Palais Royal de París, for the sample "50 ans of Sculpture Espagnole", that afterwards it soaked in the Park of the Retirement of Madrid.

In 2003 he painted the frame "Target" for the calendar 2004 of the Spanish Union of Explosives (current MAXAM); later this design was spread in a poster in limited edition.
