Eacher of graphic design in the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Arnheim, where in that moment the Bauhaus still exerted a great influence.

Its work was also influenced by movements as the Pop-art, Zero, informal German and the abstract expressionism. Besides working as plastic artist, Gerrit Westerveld has also taken part actively as graphic designer.

This alliance between the fine arts and design seems to be very fertile.

The evolution of a result discipline to be a new impulse in the other discipline.

Next to xylography and color engravings in the past, in the last years it is mainly being worked in linoleums and serigraphies

Sometimes, through this way of working, its "editions" pass "impressions" to be "a monkey".

In its works it combines different basic forms often for the exchange of colors

Its work can be recognized by its application of the basic colors and a, strong simple vocabulary of the form
