He was born on February 2, 1923 in the city of Barcelona. He began studying architecture but left to devote himself to the arts through the support of his father, Albert Rafols i Culleres. In 1950 he won a scholarship to travel to France, where he settled in Paris until 1954 with his wife, the painter Maria Girona i Benet.

He died on December 17, 2009.

His work is characterized by a compositional elegance of orthogonal structures to which is attached an emotional and bright color sensitivity. After showing an interesting relationship in the sixties and seventies, with movements like neodadá and the new realism, his work has focused on pure and intensely pictorial values: color fields in expressive harmony on highlighting lines charcoal, which They relate them in a harmonious gestural stroke. At the same time, his interest in art pedagogy, led him to found, in 1967, the Escola Eina.
