Valerio Adami (Bologne, the 17th of March 1935) is a painter, designer and Italian engraver whose style is based on the cubism.

Recognized as one of the most important live European artists, Valerio Adami stands out for its style staff, synthesis of Cubism, art Pop and Futurism.

It receives a solid formation in the study of Achille Funi, in the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, of Milan (1951-54). It is installed in Paris in 1957, and from then it develops its activity between France and Italy.

Its initial style is expressionist, and combines violent and funny images, under influence of Roberto Matta and the comic strips.

He plays the lead in its first important exhibition in 1962 (London, Institute of Contemporary Art), and soon takes part in the Documenta III of Kassel.

In the middle of the sixties, Adami fixes its best known style, of pop influence: stylized images, outlined in black on areas of intense flat colors. Its creative process starts off from photographs and other images of its environment, which it crumbles, combines and presents in schematic forms.

Its success is fast, and in 1968 represents Italy in the Biennial of Venice.

In that period, it decorates the headquarters of the Firstar Bank in Madison (Wisconsin, US.) with four big murals

The images created by Adami offer frequently fragments of the modern society, taken objects of context and perspective and that like this seem new. In its first years of pop style, it creates visions of deserted spaces, but it represents characters of the modern culture as Sigmund Freud and James Joyce later.

Its most recent stage, from the eighties, it focuses on the creation of fantastic spaces where it revitalizes the myths of the occidental culture from Ovidio, representing allusions to the beauty, the creativity, the desire and the sex.

A number of Eighty, French magazine on the art of the eighties, is dedicated to him; it is also studied by The New Yorker, and deserves critical studies of Italian Calvino and Jacques Derrida.

In 1985 an anthological one dedicates itself to him in the Center Georges Pompidou de París and in the Communo of Milan. Other exhibitions in Boston, Brussels, Hamburg, Mexico, Jerusalem, Paris (Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville) and Milan (Palazzo Reale), have to be highlighted.

In 1993 is considered Adami the Academy-Foundation in Liechtenstein.

In 2005, an exhibition of drawings is dedicated to him in Madrid. However, its presence in Spanish collections is very limited. His works are mentioned in the IVAM of Valencia, which had dedicated an individual sample to him at the end of the nineties
